"On Stage Dance at the JCC..."
Olivia Gale Artistic Director Olivia Gale was honored to be chosen in the summer of 2004 to direct the newly formed Dance Academy at the Jewish Community Center in Maitland, Florida. Our mission through our combined efforts is to provide quality dance programs for member and non-member families in the community. As a part of the after school program choices, classes were formed in Creative Movement / Pre-School Dance, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theater Dance, Hip Hop and all forms of Ballroom Dance. Creative Movement and Pre-School Dance classes are offered for the young dancer Age 3-5. Along with the basics of dance, which include elements of Classical Ballet and Jazz presented in a format that is appropriate for the young dancer, students learn socialization, leadership and following skills as well as skills that sharpen memory, improve coordination, rhythm, focus, balance, and motor development. All Dance classes emphasize proper technique that develops strength, flexibility and an appreciation for music and dance as an art. Dance class also helps develop personal discipline and build life skills that give the student the ability to achieve goals successfully throughout their lives. It is the perfect vehicle for expressing creativity while building self esteem and respect for oneself and others. Dance class, as you see, is about more than just dance. Oh, and one more thing, you have a whole lot of fun along the way. Dance is for everyone no matter what your age, 7 or 70. There are long term benefits for adults who dance, mentally, physically and emotionally. Keep dancing and stay young all your life. Olivia received her BA from Florida State University where she majored in both theater and dance, becoming a member of Dance Masters of America in 1983. She has studied dance in it's many forms from ballet, jazz and tap to modern, African and even ballroom, Latin and Swing. Needless to say, she loves to dance. Ms. Gale has been privileged to study with professionals at the top of their field including Robert Joffery (Joffery Ballet), Robert Barnett (Atlanta Ballet), Arthur Mitchell (Dance Theater of Harlem), Luigi, Reginald Yates (Alvin Ailey Dance Company), Fosse dancer Jill Powell, choreographer for Disney's Mickey Mouse Club Myles Thoroughgood, and Hardrive Productions' choreographer Pamela Bolling just to name a few. After years of running her own dance and performing arts studio, The Dance Workshop, located outside of Tallahassee, FL, she made the move to Orlando in 1995. Shortly thereafter, she opened On Stage Studios and Raven's Wing Entertainment Company providing dancers, choreography and dance shows for Conventions and Events. She has performed in and choreographed professionally for conventions and theater as well as commercials, television, and video. Her client list ranges from New Balance Athletic Wear and PBS for conventions here in Orlando to TOC Productions "Menopause the Musical" in LA. She teaches all ages and levels of jazz and tap as well as the advanced jazz classes to the upper level students at Orlando Ballet School. Olivia also teaches and choreographs for Orlando Ballet's summer intensive program which draws students locally, nationally and internationally. Although dance in it's many forms has been a primary focus of Olivia's work and interest, she is also an actor, an artist, a writer and a poet. Her writing has been published nationally in Dancer, Dance Spirit and Dance Teacher magazines, and locally in O Arts Magazine and Focus In. She has three cover articles to her credit in Dance Teacher, Dancer and O Arts. She was extremely honored to have the opportunity to act as personal press representative for former Orlando Ballet Artistic Director and Dance Icon, Fernando Bujones for two and a half years prior to his untimely passing in November of 2005. Her interest in all the arts and how they compliment each other brings an added dimension to her work. Her goal is to give her students the tools they need to tap into their own individual creativity and find their own personal joy through dance. It's the supreme art of
the teacher to awaken joy in creative Dance Arts News Feed...
