"On Stage Dance at the JCC..."
Olivia Gale was honored to be chosen in the summer of 2004 to direct the newly formed Dance Academy at the Jewish Community Center in Maitland, Florida. Our mission through our combined efforts is to provide quality dance programs for member and non-member families in the community. As a part of the after school program choices, classes were formed in Creative Movement / Pre-School Dance, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theater Dance, Hip Hop and all forms of Ballroom Dance. Creative Movement and Pre-School Dance classes are offered for the young dancer Age 3-5. Along with the basics of dance, which include elements of Classical Ballet and Jazz presented in a format that is appropriate for the young dancer, students learn socialization, leadership and following skills as well as skills that sharpen memory, improve coordination, rhythm, focus, balance, and motor development. All Dance classes emphasize proper technique that develops strength, flexibility and an appreciation for music and dance as an art. Dance class also helps develop personal discipline and build life skills that give the student the ability to achieve goals successfully throughout their lives. It is the perfect vehicle for expressing creativity while building self esteem and respect for oneself and others. Dance class, as you see, is about more than just dance. Oh, and one more thing, you have a whole lot of fun along the way. Dance is for everyone no matter what your age, 7 or 70. There are long term benefits for adults who dance, mentally, physically and emotionally. Keep dancing and stay young all your life.
Olivia received her BA from Florida State University where she majored in both theater and dance, becoming a member of Dance Masters of America in 1983. She has studied dance in it's many forms from ballet, jazz and tap to modern, African and even ballroom, Latin and Swing. Needless to say, she loves to dance. Ms. Gale has been privileged to study with professionals at the top of their field including workshops with Robert Joffery (Joffery Ballet), Robert Barnett (Atlanta Ballet), Arthur Mitchell (Dance Theater of Harlem), Luigi, Reginald Yates (Alvin Ailey Dance Company), Fosse dancer Jill Powell, and classes with the choreographer for Disney's Mickey Mouse Club Myles Thoroughgood, and Hardrive Productions' choreographer Pamela Bolling just to name a few. After years of running her own dance and performing arts studio, The Dance Workshop, located outside of Tallahassee, FL, she made the move to Orlando in 1995. Shortly thereafter, she opened On Stage Studios and Raven's Wing Entertainment Company providing dancers, choreography and dance shows for Conventions and Events. She has performed in and choreographed professionally for conventions and theater as well as commercials, television, and video. Her client list ranges from New Balance Athletic Wear and PBS for conventions here in Orlando to TOC Productions "Menopause the Musical" in LA. She teaches all ages and levels of jazz and tap as well as the advanced jazz classes to the upper level students at Orlando Ballet School. Olivia also teaches and choreographs for Orlando Ballet's summer intensive program which draws students locally, nationally and internationally. Although dance in it's many forms has been a primary focus of Olivia's work and interest, she is also an actor, an artist, a writer and a poet. Her writing has been published nationally in Dancer, Dance Spirit and Dance Teacher magazines, and locally in O Arts Magazine and Focus In. She has three cover articles to her credit in Dance Teacher, Dancer and O Arts. She was extremely honored to have the opportunity to act as personal press representative for former Orlando Ballet Artistic Director and Dance Icon, Fernando Bujones for two and a half years prior to his untimely passing in November of 2005. Her interest in all the arts and how they compliment each other brings an added dimension to her work. Her goal is to give her students the tools they need to tap into their own individual creativity and find their own personal joy through dance.

"You do a GREAT
job with the kids! You are the most professional jazz teacher that I have ever
worked with and I whole heartedly appreciate it."
"It was obvious Olivia had the same philosophy as The Parke House Academy...'that every student will have the opportunity to work to his/her highest ability'...everyone is challenged and encouraged to do their best. Throughout the year it is easy to see the students flourish and gain confidence when she is instructing them in the various styles of dance. Olivia has great patience with her students which I feel allows them to try new directions without the fear of failure. She herself is constantly trying new things in life and is well rounded in the arts. This comes through to her students..." Renee Dietzel, Former Director, The Parke House Academy

"Olivia is a
professional dance teacher who is passionate about the art of dance. She
instills technical strength, focus, and encouragement to her students while
passing on that passion. Olivia is patient and offers positive instruction with
discipline, while using age appropriate skills in her teaching. Her creative
talent and experience is obvious by all that she brings to the dance studio.--Corrie

"It is a wonderful thing for our preschool to have Olivia come and present a Creative Movement class that appeals to both boys and girls. Olivia is fun and talented and always respectful to the children and teachers. The children learn to follow directions, use their bodies in appropriate ways and develop a love for dance. Our JCC preschool feels very honored to have the caliber of a teacher like Olivia. We are committed to introducing the arts to the children and Olivia gives them a great start.", Marcy Rosenbaum, Team Supervisor 4's & Pre-K

"Farewell to a Friend"
Fernando Bujones March 9, 1955 - November 10, 2005

Fernando Bujones, international dance icon and Artistic Director of Orlando Ballet, passed away Thursday morning, November 10th, 2005. This is a devastating loss to the dance world, but an even greater loss to all those who knew the man. Fernando's passion and energy were contagious. He inspired all those around him to be better than they ever imagined they could be, to reach beyond self imposed limitations. He gave them permission to fly, to let go and reach for the stars. His warmth and generosity of spirit endeared him to everyone who knew him. This is a man who got it right. He understood that by treating those in his world with respect and acknowledging the value of each person's unique gifts, the whole would become greater than the sum of it's parts. He understood that by contributing to and applauding each person's success, our own success is not diminished, but magnified a hundred fold. That is the foundation and premise that he built Orlando Ballet upon, a company that would be a reflection of the passion, spirit and vision of a great artist, a great leader, a great man. That is the foundation and premise that he lived his life by as well. He gave freely of his knowledge and his artistry, but his greatest gift was the gift of himself. I was privileged and honored be able to chronicle and share with the world through my writing what I saw unfold over the past five years of Fernando's journey with Orlando Ballet, and to serve Fernando as his personal representative for two and a half of those years, but my greatest honor and truest blessing was to have him as a friend.
"Fernando came to Orlando Ballet and took an average local company and made it into a world-class organization. He was an exceptional gift to the world of dance - not only as a performer but with the legacy he leaves." ...Immediate Past President of Orlando Ballet Tricia Earl
"Bujones, one of the finest male dancers of the 20th Century, leaves behind a legacy of international accomplishment in performance, choreography and teaching in addition to a world-class ballet company." www.orlandoballet.org
"The Extraordinary Journey of Fernando Bujones" is definitely a labor of love...Fernando was not only an incredible dancer and teacher but one of the most amazing human beings I've ever met. That is why I choose to write about him. I felt that his was a story that must be shared with the world. This is the same kind of motivation that Israel Rodriguez had to create his chronicle in film of Fernando the artist and the man...This is a film not to be missed...
Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel Movie critic wrote in his article reviewing the film..."Israel Rodriguez's The Extraordinary Journey of Fernando Bujones uses generous samples of the dancing of the late Orlando Ballet artistic director and interviews with his peers to remind us how special Bujones was. Landing Malcolm McDowell (who starred in Robert Altman's ballet film The Company) to give the film its triumphant narration, scoring interviews with those who raised Bujones, taught him dance, were inspired by him and loved him, Rodriguez has made a film that will open the eyes of those who didn't realize the giant who lived and worked in our midst."
